Project Details
In August of 2015 I had the pleasure of volunteering at the Toronto 2015 Parapan Am Games. Throughout
my week-long experience, I gained a great amount of respect and admiration for the athletes who I was
privileged enough to watch up close and in action.
However, I was also left disappointed by the lack of awareness there is for parasports in our society,
and by the disparity of interest between the Pan Am and Parapan Am games. Inspired by the athletes at the games,
I created an information design piece which presents the inequalities between parasports and regular sports,
and highlights some of the incredible individuals that participate in parasports. The goal of the project was
to make the point that parasport athletes deserve our attention and support, as well as to show how parasport
events have a positive impact.
The project consisted of a 12-panel, double-sided foldable poster, as well as an accompanying Adobe Digital Publishing
Suite (DPS) app. The illustrations have been created with a series of rough strokes from various markers and pens,
echoing the raw emotion displayed by the athletes. The red, black and white colour palette adds to the intensity of the chosen style.
