Project Details

Caillou (2024) is a CG animated television series produced as a modern reboot of the long-running children’s show. I was a member of the lighting team for the first season, where I was responsible for lighting and rendering shots across the full range of episodes. Working primarily in Maya with Redshift, I helped establish and maintain a consistent visual look that supported the show’s bright, playful tone while remaining readable and appealing for a young audience.

Efficiency and consistency were key on this fast-paced television pipeline. MEL scripts were regularly used to streamline repetitive tasks, standardize lighting setups, and improve iteration times across large batches of shots. I was often also involved in assisting the texturing department, by making tweaks to shaders which would more accurately reflect the direction of the show in our fully lit scenes, and which I would apply at a shot, sequence, or episode level. Strong lighting fundamentals were essential to maintaining quality at scale, while still allowing room to subtly enhance mood, depth, and visual interest within the constraints of a children’s animated series.
